This series was realized between 2002 and 2005 in two elephant training centers in Kerala: Annathavalam, near Guruvayur and Kodenad, on the Periyar River. It sprang from my fascination with these grandiose creatures and my desire to spend time with them and the men who live with them, train them and, for the most part, love them like their own children. Again, my visual preoccupations got the best of me and the result is this body of work where the subjects become but mere elements of perspective, composition and light, and where tactile sensuality seeps onto the seemingly contradictory medium of paper (for which the work is destined).
